Busy, busy, busy...

I've been busy lately...but not riding. While I would love this blog to be strictly horse-related, I think that being a multifaceted individual allows me some wiggle room to talk about the other parts of my life that are distracting me from, or keeping me from riding. I am admittedly, a bit of an over-sharer, even though I consider myself intensely private at times.

What's been keeping me from riding? Well, time and money...mostly. That said, I have been making tremendous headway with the Great Dental Project of 2011. I have just a few more procedures to get done (including a gold tooth - BLING), but they are easily the most expensive of the lot. I'm really hoping to have everything finished by next March which will mark one year of steady dental work! Agh!
I do have a horse blog entry lined up (spoiler alert: I went to watch Dressage at Devon and felt completely weird and out of place, but enjoyed the amazing horses competing). And not to worry, I've been feverishly reading your blogs and anything and everything horse related that I can get my hands on, including scouring for sale/lease ads like it's my job. Sometimes I'm left feeling a bit sour about the whole thing, but mostly I feel positive about the role horses will get to play in my future too.

So, in the meantime I've been crafting, working on a furniture refinishing project. This is a very busy time of year at work and having escaped nearly losing my assistant in the middle of that, I'm starting to feel a little less stressed. Here are some highlights of my activities:

Oh Hai little mid century side table (flea market find for $5!)

Sanding down the veneer

Top (sanded with medium grit)

Legs before sanding

I promise to post AFTER photos!

I've got a real addiction to finding junky things (that have style, of course) and refinishing them. It's very rewarding, not unlike working with a green horse! The finished product makes all the hard work worth it! Here are a few other projects I've done over the years:
A flower press I made from reclaimed wood salvaged from a burned building in Philly

Mid Century chair (BEFORE) - part of dining room set that I picked up from Craigslist for $50

After! Four chairs refinished, painted, sanded and reupholstered! I wound up dumping the table and buying a large, white tulip table from Craigslist half price!
